Senior consultant – green energy transition

Role Overview

Aubon Group seeks a Senior Consultant to lead strategic engagements supporting energy sector clients navigating decarbonisation. You’ll develop transition pathways balancing regulatory mandates, technological feasibility, and commercial viability whilst managing client relationships and internal project teams.
This role suits consultants with substantive energy sector knowledge who combine strategic thinking with operational implementation focus. You’ll advise energy producers, infrastructure developers, utilities and investors on renewable energy deployment, grid transformation, hydrogen economy participation and carbon management strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Client Engagement & Strategy Development
  • Lead strategic advisory projects from scoping through implementation support
  • Develop comprehensive decarbonisation roadmaps accounting for technical, financial and regulatory dimensions
  • Conduct market analysis, competitive assessments and technology evaluations
  • Structure renewable energy investments and portfolio optimisation frameworks
  • Navigate complex regulatory environments across European energy markets
Project & Team Leadership
  • Manage multi-workstream projects with cross-functional teams
  • Provide technical direction and quality assurance for analytical work
  • Develop junior consultants through active mentorship and capability building
  • Maintain client relationships and identify expansion opportunities within existing accounts
  • Ensure project delivery meets quality standards, timeline commitments and budget parameters
Thought Leadership & Business Development
  • Contribute to Aubon Group’s energy transition research and publications
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences and client events
  • Support proposal development and new client pitches
  • Build market presence through professional networks and sectoral engagement
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunity areas within energy transition
Sectoral Expertise Application
  • Apply knowledge of energy markets, grid infrastructure and regulatory frameworks
  • Assess technical feasibility of renewable energy technologies and integration requirements
  • Evaluate hydrogen production pathways, carbon capture solutions and energy storage options
  • Understand power market dynamics, capacity mechanisms and subsidy schemes
  • Interpret climate policy evolution and implications for energy sector strategy

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in engineering, economics, business or related field
  • 5-7 years’ professional experience in management consultancy, energy sector strategy roles or equivalent positions
  • Demonstrable expertise in energy transition, renewable energy, or decarbonisation strategy
  • Strong analytical capabilities including financial modelling, data analysis and quantitative research
  • Project management experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder engagements
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to present complex analysis to executive audiences

Desired Attributes
